DAY1:

Welcoming in Addis Ababa

In the capital of Addis Ababa, a welcoming meeting will kick off the journey at 6 o'clock. The Addis Sheraton, one of the most opulent hotels in all of Africa, with its "singing fountain," is just a few blocks away from bustling marketplaces, dusty roads, and the occasional goat walking the streets. Emperor Menelik II founded this relatively recent city in 1887. The National Museum, where you can see the remnants of "Lucy," and the Ethnographic Museum, which is located on the lovely grounds of Haile Selassie's old palace, are included in the optional city trip, which departs at 1 p.m. You'll eat supper at a nearby restaurant in the evening.

DAY2:

LAKE TOUR AT LAKE TANA

We're going to fly in style to Bahir Dar today. From above, we can see the Ethiopian Plateau's amazing landscape, which is frequently carved by incredibly deep canyons. The southern side of Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile, is home to the modest but rapidly expanding town of Bahir Dar. Long known to draw men of faith, the region is home to a large number of churches and monasteries, many of which are located on the roughly thirty islands that make up Lake Tana. Take a lake tour this afternoon by boarding a tourist boat.

DAY3:

BLUE NILE

Today, go visit the Blue Nile Falls. The Blue Nile Falls, which are 1.5 hours drive south of Bahir Dar, are nearly 400 meters wide and plunge 48 meters when fully flooded. Locally known as Tis Isat (Smoking Water), these waterfalls offer a breathtaking sight when the water is high. Although the majesty has been considerably diminished by new dams and hydroelectric projects, the scene is still impressive. You have two options for getting to the base of the falls: a longer picturesque stroll through the major viewpoint (1.5 kilometers), or a shorter one. Visit the open-air market or ride a tuk-tuk to the town viewpoint after a leisurely lunch in Bahir Dar.

DAY4:

GONDAR

This morning, travel north along Lake Tana's shore to the majestic city of Gondar. Through the 17th and 18th centuries, Gondar served as Ethiopia's capital and is renowned for its ancient churches and fortresses. The city's most important cathedrals and castles may be seen either as part of a tour or on your own this afternoon or tomorrow. A World Heritage site, the city's distinctive Royal Enclosure is home to magnificent, imperial-built fortresses that are unmatched in Africa. The magnificent church of Debre Berhan Selassie, one of the best in Ethiopia with walls and ceilings decorated in exquisite murals of angels, is a must-see while touring these ancient castles in the afternoon.

DAY5:

Lalibella

Today we'll spend the whole day touring the breathtaking churches of Lalibela, which appear to have fallen from the sky. Astonishing rock-hewn churches were built at Lalibela between 1137 and 1270; they were built from large single pieces of stone that were uncovered through the excavation of huge trenches. Seven churches, a tomb, a chapel, and a subterranean chapel are all part of the Northern Group. This church is arguably the most aesthetically appealing and has been conserved remarkably well. The sole hypogeous church, where only the roof is still linked to the rock above, is part of the eastern group of five churches.
